Google Job Offer - | No technical / Coding interview

Feb 25 8 Comments

My colleague got into google as an Analytics manager with no technical interview,

he has ~4 years of work experience with a Masters's degree.

He doesn't know to code (or maybe just the basics), for the last 2.5 years all he did was use SQL to pull data (all queries were prewritten) & build dashboards using Tableau, and make PPT and present it to stakeholders.

He has good contacts /network, I was surprised that he has just 2 rounds of interviews, and since the hiring manager was his close acquaintance he skipped technical rounds and just pushed him to a panel interview.

If you know someone working at Google is it that easy to get the Job there?

My colleague himself doesn't believe that he got into Google and says he just got lucky.

No, it’s not easy to get a job there, obviously. He crushed the interviews and also a little luck involved.

I dont know how he could have crushed it, he was trying to switch jobs for 1 year and failed in ~20 interviews. I am not jealous I am just curious if there is someone like a close acquaintance who can vouch to hire would that make things easy?

Only helps. But the interview process there is team oriented. They don’t have a single decision maker, even if there is a hiring manager involved I believe. Maybe they really needed to fill the role and were having a hard time finding quality candidate? Also, if you fail 20 interviews, by then you’re super sharp and have a very large question/answer bank if your learning :)

My friend works non-tech and he was surprised to learn that we have so many rounds.

I think they have less rounds than us.
